“Each year Steps Dance Studio gives out scholarships to deserving students who wish to further their study in the field of dance. A batch of would-be scholars are chosen based on their physical and technical abilities and are awarded scholarships for Classical Ballet, Jazz and Modern.
The program opens every 1st quarter of the year. Applicant must have the qualifications and pass the audition for the type of scholarship he/she is applying for. There are three types of scholarships for the Classical and Jazz / Contemporary courses: half, full A, and B scholarships. The program is open to all interested students from all over the country (including those currently enrolled at Steps). Application forms are made available on the day of the audition. High school & college students are highly encouraged to join the scholarship program.
REQUIREMENTS
For Half Scholarships -
• Classical applicant/s must be at least of Elementary Dance level, and Jazz/Contemporary applicant/s must be at least 13 years of age with dance background;
• Must be of good standard for their age level;
• Should be able to commit to the full schedule given to him/her;
• Should be hard working, dedicated and committed;
• Must have a good physique for dance and good body proportion;
• His/Her loyalty to STEPS is a consideration (i.e. number of years he/she have been with STEPS).
For Full Scholarships (A/B) -
• Classical applicant/s must be at least of Elementary Dance level, and Jazz/Contemporary applicant/s must be at least 13 years of age with dance background;
• Special financial assistance may be given (for Full Scholarship A only);
• Must be of High technical level in dance;
• Should be able to commit to the full schedule given to him/her;
• Should be hardworking, dedicated and committed;
• During the scholarship, he/she cannot be committed to any dance companies, dance troupes, etc.;
• Must have good physique for dance with good facility and body proportion;
• His/Her loyalty to STEPS is a consideration (i.e. number of years he/she have been with STEPS).
THE AUDITION
The scholarship program audition is usually scheduled three (3) weeks before the opening of the Summer Dance Workshop. Chosen Steps faculty, headed by Steps director Sofia Zobel - Elizalde, commence the audition and makes the choices for the year’s audition.
Processing usually takes 2-3 working weeks after the audition. All applicants are assessed meticulously and application forms are reviewed several times before any decision is given.
AWARDING
Successful applicant/s shall be notified immediately. A special orientation shall be scheduled within the week wherein would-be scholars are informed what type of scholarship they are offered. All scholars are given one week to decide whether they will accept the scholarship. They are expected to do both Classical and Jazz/Contemporary classes regardless of the program they applied for.”
