			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>KPI Scholarship Program<br />
Kabataang Pilipino, Inc.</strong></p>
<p>Scholarship opportunities are available to “financially challenged Filipino youths” to obtain primary, secondary, tertiary or vocational education through the KPI Scholarship Program through any of the following scholarship categories:  Academic Scholarship, Art Scholarship and Handicapped Scholarship.</p>
<p><strong>Financial assistance</strong> depends on availability of funds and may amount to up to PhP4,000 per year for elementary and vocational students, PhP7,000 per year for high school students and PhP5,000 per semester or PhP4,000 per trimester for college students.</p>
<p>To be eligible, Filipino youth scholars must have an annual family income of less than PhP100,000.00, have a strong desire to finish his/her education, and do not have an immediate family member who is a former recipient of a KPI scholarship.</p>
<p>All applicants must submit proof of income (annual family income is less than PhP100,000), a handwritten letter of request for scholarship preferably in English, certificate of residency and good moral character from the Barangay of residence and any two verifiable character references, and a signed Kabataang Pilipino Covenant of Partnership if accepted as scholar. </p>
<p><strong>Academic Scholarship</strong></p>
<p>Elementary and high school academic scholarship applicants must have a general weighted average of at least 85% or equivalent in the immediate/previous year from the date of application to the program and should be at least an incoming 4th grader (for elementary applicants) or freshman (for high school applicants) at the time of the scholarship grant. Applicants should be endorsed by the adviser and/or principal of the school where the applicant is studying or going to study. </p>
<p>College academic scholarship applicants must have a general weighted average of at least 85% or equivalent OR no failing grades on all subjects taken in the immediate school year from the time of application and an incoming freshman at the time of the scholarship grant.<br />
Priority shall be given to those taking up any IT-related courses (e.g., programming, web designing, etc.) for vocational applicants. Other courses however, may be considered on a case to case basis by the Board of Trustees. </p>
<p><strong>Art Scholarship</strong></p>
<p>The elementary, high school or college art scholarship program is open to Filipino youths with  talents in the visual and written arts, sculpture, or any form of physical arts.  Applicants to this category must submit sample(s) of work to the KP Screening/Selection Committee for evaluation which submitted work samples become the property of KPI. </p>
<p>The program is also open to Filipino youths with talents in the performing arts. Applicants to this category must arrange an appropriate schedule with the KP Screening/Selection Committee to demonstrate the talent. </p>
<p><strong>Handicapped Scholarship</strong></p>
<p>To avail of the Handicapped Scholarship program for admittance at any educational level, applicants must submit a medical certification from a doctor or attending physician and recently taken (i.e., not older than 3 months) color photographs to show proof of disability/handicap. </p>

<p>The Philippine High School for the Arts is announcing its call for the 2008 Nationwide Search for Young Art Scholars.  This is a government-supported opportunity for Filipino student artists to attend for free an academic and art trainings program.</p>
<p>“The PHSA scholarship is inclusive of <strong>free tuition and fees, free board and lodging, free transportation and use of books and facilities, a monthly stipend, and the chance to participate in local and international arts activities</strong>.”</p>
<p>Eligible candidates must be Filipino with no pending application as immigrant to any foreign country; have an outstanding ability in an art discipline; have passed the High School Readiness Test (HSRT); be a graduating Grade VI or Grade VII pupil at the time of application; be able to take up the scholarship in the school year for which the scholarship is granted; be proficient in oral and written Filipino and English; be willing to study in a residential high school; have no systemic and/or communicable diseases; not be older than 13 years upon enrolment; and be determined to pursue a degree in any art discipline upon graduation from the PHSA.</p>
<p><strong>To be considered for preliminary evaluation, applicants must submit the following documents by September 1, 2007</strong>: a fully accomplished application form (to be downloaded at <a href="http://www.phsa.edu.ph/screening.htm">http://www.phsa.edu.ph/screening.htm</a>; a certified true copy of applicant’s Birth Certificate; a photocopy of the Grade V or Grade VI Report Card; 1-page resume citing accomplishments in particular art field of interest; 1 page essay (English or Filipino) by applicant stating his/her reason for applying at PHSA; 1 page essay (English or Filipino) by a parent stating his/her reason for enrolling his/her child in an arts school; and 2 sets of priority mail stamps.</p>
<p>For creative writing applicants, additional requirements include a neatly presented portfolio of not less than ten (10) samples of writings (e.g. short story, poem, essay) in Filipino and/or English, typewritten, double-spaced on A4 white bond paper authenticated by the school principal or teacher-in-charge.</p>
