ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE FORD FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM (IFP) and the PHILIPPINE SOCIAL SCIENCE COUNCIL (PSSC)
The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP), in partnership with the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the fifth round of competition.
Applicants are expected to have earned a baccalaureate degree with above average grades, with at least three years of relevant work experience that relates to the proposed graduate study program and to the kind of work or community service that one plans to do after completion of studies.
Applicants are also expected to pursue studies in academic fields that parallel the Ford Foundation’s grant making goals to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation and advance human achievement.
Only those working and/or living outside Metro Manila are eligible to apply. Women, members of indigenous cultural communities, and those working with social development organizations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interview by the National Selection Panel – May 2008
Start of academic year for selected candidates – September 2009

MORE ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP
“The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) awards graduate fellowships to candidates who have demonstrated social commitment, leadership and academic achievement. Worldwide, IFP is being implemented in 22 countries and territories in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as Russia.”
Filipino applicants to the IFP must submit their applications to the Philippine Social Science Council.
The applicant must be Filipino and a Philippine resident but must not be a resident and/or working in Metro Manila; he/she must have completed a bachelor’s degree with above average grades; has at least three years of relevant work experience that relates to the proposed graduate study program and to the kind of work or community service that one plans to do after completion of studies; has a proposed field of study which must be related to one of the 12 Ford Foundation grant-making areas, (Arts and Culture; Civil Society; Community Development; Economic Development and Economic Security; Education and Scholarship; Governance; Human Rights; Religion, Society and Culture; Media, Sexuality and Reproductive Health; and Workforce Development); has never attended school outside of the Philippines; is not working nor affiliated with an institution/organization that offers opportunities for an advanced degree; and he/she does not have a pending administrative or criminal case.
The Selection Process
“Interested candidates should complete an IFP-PSSC Application Form and return these forms as early as possible to the IFP-PSSC National Office, the Regional Partner, or the source of your application form.
Step 1: Eligible candidates will be sent an IFP-PSSC Full Application Form for completion. Candidates should complete the application form with all the documentary requirements and return these to the IFP-PSSC National Office, the Regional Partner, or the source of the application form.
Step 2: Screening of completed full applications based on exclusion criteria, social commitment criteria and leadership potential criteria by the Regional Screening Committees.
Step 3: Review by a panel of experts who will look more closely into the candidate’s academic potential and preparedness.
Step 4: Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview by the National Selection Panel.”
